Tips for Safe Travel to Tybee Island

Travel Safety Tips

With Tybee’s in-season just around the corner, we expect people from all over to pack their bags and make our area their vacation destination. We want you to arrive safely though no matter what form of travel you choose, but if you’re driving, consider these safety tips!

If you haven’t booked your stay yet here in Tybee, consider us at the 17th Street Inn, a unique Inn at the beach!

1. Travel Early or Late
Plan to do your traveling early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid most other travelers and potential traffic hold ups.

2. Travel With Food and Water
You never know what kinds of traffic could hold you up. Always travel with at least 2 bottles of water per person in addition to sustainable travel foods.

3. Keep Children Occupied
Traveling with children can be stressful, especially if going long distances. Surprising them with a new toy or game is a perfect way to set them at ease and keep them occupied. If you vehicle has a dvd player, a new movie will be sure to keep their attention for at least a little while!

4. Travel Prepared for Anything
Even taking every precaution to travel safely and stress free, you should always travel with emergency items like:

  • Blankets
  • First aid kit
  • List of emergency contacts
  • Map of the area
  • Food
  • Water

5. Budget Friendly Travel

  • By bringing your own food to snack on or have in case of emergency, you will be able to avoid the temptation to buy overpriced food items from gas stations or rest stops.
  • Don’t overpack your car because the heavier it is, the more gas will be consumed during travel.
  • If possible, map out the places you will need to fuel up. Many cell phones provide apps that help you locate the best gas prices in the area.
  • If you have a choice in the vehicle you will use, opt for the more fuel efficient one, allowing you to travel further on less gas.

The most important part about any family vacation is spending that quality time and making memories once you get there. Make sure you arrive at your destination safely and as stress free as possible.  Enjoy this upcoming beach season and please leave a comment below if you have additional travel tips or “what not to do”!
