Kick-Off St. Patrick’s Day Fun in Tybee This Weekend!

St Patricks Day Tybee Island

While St. Patrick’s Day isn’t until Sunday, March 17, Tybee Island likes to start things early and has a day planned for you to get your green on! The Island will “go green” with the 11th Annual Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade, which will be held Saturday, March 9. This is a free, family-friendly event that is open to the public and parade goers are encouraged to come out dressed in green!

The fun starts at 3:00 pm at City Hall and proceeds down Butler Avenue to Tybrisa Street. You’re in for a treat this year as the Tybee Irish Heritage Celebration Parade gets bigger and better each year. Some of what you have to look forward to are Irish families marching, along with bands, bagpipers and festive floats that will instill Irish pride in all of us. There will also be golf carts and bicycles decked out in their “green”.

If you happen to be staying here at the 17th Street Inn, you will be happy to know that you are only 42 seconds away from the parade route! It’s not too late to book your stay with us but the suites are going fast!

The Irish Heritage Celebration Parade isn’t the only St. Patrick’s Day fun happening this weekend. Just 20 minutes from Tybee Island in popular Savannah:

  • The annual Greening of the Forsyth Park Fountain is on Friday, March 8 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.
  • Tara Feis is on Saturday, March 9. This festival will include live performances, food, art activities, crafts and games hosted with Irish ceremony, tradition and hospitality.  Now in its twentieth year, Tara Feis is a free, non-alcoholic event geared towards families and children. This lively event takes place at Emmet Park, which borders East Bay Street on the bluff overlooking the Savannah River.
  • The Celtic Cross Ceremony is March 10 and is a time to honor the city’s Irish ancestors and the contributions they made in anticipation of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. This event will be held in Emmet Park.

There is never a shortage of fun and things to do in Tybee so pack your bags and we’ll see you when you get here!
