Guide to Water Sports in Tybee Island

Have a favorite water sport?  Tybee Island is home to a variety of ways to splash, ride, paddle, and enjoy the water along our 5 miles of gorgeous beaches!  Whether you’ll be going it alone or with friends or family, there’s a water sport you can do for the hundredth time or learn for the very first time.

Here’s a visitor’s guide to the water sports that Tybee Island has to offer:

Stand-up paddleboarding is becoming more popular everywhere there is water mainly because it is fun and super easy to learn to do.  The best part about it is that it’s literally like walking on water!  One of the places the 17th Street Inn recommends for this awesome activity is East Coast Paddleboarding.  They provide stand up paddleboard and surf instruction, rentals, tours, sales and summer camps.  All of their instructors are nationally certified to teach stand up paddleboarding as well as surfing.  Give them a call at (912) 484-3200.

There are a few places in Tybee where you can go kayaking as well as get lessons if it’s your first time.  One of the places we recommend is Sea Kayak Georgia, located at 1102 Highway 80.  It is owned and operated by Tybee residents who are both instructors and decade long professional paddlers.  You can also partake in paddleboarding here.

North Island Surf and Kayak is anther awesome place to check out for kayaking AND surfing!  They are located just across the Lazaretto Creek Bridge and are the closest kayak outfit to the ocean.  All of their staff are First Aid and CPR certified and just love what they do.  They also offer a variety of tours for small or large groups.

Jet Skiing and other Water sport Activities
Tybee Jet Ski & Watersports is THE place to go for a variety of water sports for groups of all sizes.  They offer kayak rentals for the creeks and river, as well as the ocean, canoeing, jet skiing, and more!  You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Tybee Island’s beaches, Fort Pulaski and the historic lighthouse from a Jet Ski or Jet Boat. Give them a call at 1-877-9JETSKI.

Tybee Island is home to so many things to do and see that just about every place you can go will have you wishing you had more time to spend here!  What are some of your favorite things to do in Tybee?
