Water War on Tybee Island ~ Better Known as the Beach Bum Parade

What place better for a water war than Tybee Island! The water war that I’m talking about is actually the annual Beach Bum Parade, happening this Friday, May 18 at 6:30pm.  This Tybee tradition offers an awesome, unique twist to a traditional parade.  There will still be floats pulled behind cars and trucks, but make sure you’re dressed to get wet because everyone on board will have some sort of water-throwing paraphernalia!

The fun doesn’t stop there, the spectators that line the sides of Butler Avenue will also be armed with their own water forces.  You can only imagine the all out water war that takes place during this event!  From squirt guns of all varieties to hoses, this is one of the most fun annual events of the year and we’d love for you to stay with us here at the 17th Street Inn!

Here’s a look at what you can expect:

There are a few rules though that you’ll need to follow in order to stay out of trouble!

  • Water balloons, buckets, and pressure washers are prohibited and considered dangerous.
  • No ice water.
  • Restrict your targets to parade participants and on-lookers only.
  • Do not attempt to aim your hose or water gun at a police officer.
  • Residents and visitors are also asked to use common sense in choosing and soaking your targets.

It goes without saying that common sense is important during the Beach Bum Parade to keep yourself and everyone around you safe.  So have fun and we would LOVE to see your pictures and videos, so feel free to upload them to our Facebook Page wall over the weekend!

There is never a shortage of fun and things to do in Tybee so pack your bags and we’ll see you when you get here!

Contact us here at the 17th Street Inn for more information about staying with us, things to do on Tybee Island including dining, nightlife, beach activities, must see attractions and events, and any other questions you may have about the area!  We would also love for you to connect with us on our Facebook Page.
