Bring the Beach Home With You

You don’t have to leave the beach behind when you walk off the sand at Tybee Beach and away from the magnificent waters.  In fact, you can enjoy the beach atmosphere all year round no matter where you live by bringing the beach home with you!  One of the favorite past times of beach goers and vacationers is to collect shells and other things like sea glass, coral, and sand dollars.

Because the most fun part lies in collecting them, most of these treasures go unnoticed after the fact.  Instead of leaving them to collect dust, there are a variety of ways you can use them to bring the beach into your home – that way even on a rainy, cool day, your home can be a reminder of a place that you love.

Tybee Island has one of the most beautiful beaches along the Georgia coastline, making up five miles of the most perfect sandcastle making sand, warm ocean water, and breathtaking panoramic views and is just steps from the 17th Street Inn.

Here are a few creative ways and do-it-yourself project ideas that will have your home becoming the perfect reminder of the beach.

1. You probably have a stash of glass jars, bowls, vases, etc. around your home.  Bring them out of the cabinets and use them to show off your collections.  You can fill a bowl with sand and put shells and coral on the top, you can fill a vase with sea glass and sand dollar pieces, and you can fill a jar with a few of the whole, unique shells you’ve found.  Placing items like these around your home is just one way to bring the beach inside, while enjoying things you’ve collected yourself.

2. Another way you can use the treasures you’ve collected on the beach is to find a few old picture frames.  Create a collage of beach inspired frames by gluing shells to one frame, sand dollar pieces to another, sea glass to another, and a variety to yet another.  When you display all of the frames together, you have a beautiful beachy collection to look at.  You can even fill each of the frames with pictures you’ve taken of the ocean waves!

3. Mirrors are another item that look great when embellished with beach decor.  Glue shells, etc. around the outer portion of the mirror and try hanging it near the glass jars filled with beach stuff.

Before you take on any of these projects, be sure to wash your shells and other found items with soap and water.  We would absolutely love to see pictures of any of beach projects you do, so please feel free to share them on our Facebook Page.

There is never a shortage of fun and things to do in Tybee so pack your bags and we’ll see you when you get here!
