St. Patrick’s Day Starts Early in Tybee Island

St Patricks Day on Tybee IslandWhile St. Patrick’s Day isn’t until Saturday, March 17, Tybee likes to start things early and has a day planned for you to get your green on!  The Island will “go green” with the 10th Annual Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade, which will be held Saturday, March 10.  This is a free, family-friendly event that is open to the public and parade goers are encouraged to come out dressed in green!

The fun starts at 3:00 pm beginning at 4th Street next to City Hall and proceeds down Butler Avenue to Tybrisa Street.  You’re in for a treat this year as the Tybee Irish Heritage Celebration Parade gets bigger and better each year.  Some of what you have to look forward to are Irish families marching, along with bands, bagpipers and festive floats that will instill Irish pride in all of us.  There will also be golf carts and bicycles decked out in their “green”, along with a special bag piper, Shane Parris.

If you happen to be staying here at the 17th Street Inn, you will be happy to know that you are only 42 seconds away from the parade route!  It’s not too late to book your stay with us but the suites are going fast!

The Irish Heritage Celebration Parade isn’t the only St. Patrick’s Day fun happening this weekend.  Just 20 minutes from Tybee Island in popular Savannah:

  • The annual Greening of the Forsyth Park Fountain is on Friday, March 9 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.
  • Tara Feis is on Saturday, March 10 from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.  This festival will include live performances, food, art activities, crafts and games hosted with Irish ceremony, tradition and hospitality.  Now in its twentieth year, Tara Feis is a free, non-alcoholic event geared towards families and children.
  • The Celtic Cross Ceremony is all day Sunday, March 11.  The location has not been announced yet so if you find out, please leave a comment letting us know!

There is never a shortage of fun and things to do in Tybee so pack your bags and we’ll see you when you get here!
