Another fantastic place to go if you’re looking for a fishing charter is Lazaretto Creek Marina.  They are closest to the ocean so there is less time spent traveling to the fishing grounds, and their boats are 32 foot cabin cruisers that carry a maximum of 6 people.  Different rates are offered for both offshore fishing and inshore fishing and the captain will provide everything you need!  You are allowed to bring a cooler anything you want to eat or drink.

1. Travel With Food and Water
Even though you may be traveling to reach get to a large feast, it is important to remember that you never know what kinds of holiday traffic could hold you up.  Always travel with at least 2 bottles of water per person in addition to sustainable travel foods.

2. Travel Early or Late
Most holiday traveling is done between 9am and 12p.  Plan to do your traveling early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid most other travelers and potential traffic hold ups.

Even taking every precaution to travel safely and stress free, you should always travel with emergency items like:

·         New Year’s Eve Fireworks – What better way to ring the New Year than on the Tybee Pier overlooking the beach and ocean.  At the stroke of midnight, the gentle lapping of waves and hum of conversation will give way to a brilliant display of fireworks.  You can watch from one of the many restaurants or bars, on the pier itself, or immerse yourself in the moment on the soft, sandy beach.

·         Tybee Polar Plunge – After you finish ringing in the New Year, join locals and visitors for the 12th Annual Tybee Polar Plunge on January 1st.  This is a popular yearly event where everyone dons their favorite bathing suit and swim cap to take an invigorating dip in the Atlantic.  Participants are encouraged to wear crazy costumes or hats as they leap into the waves.  All participants this year will get to participate in a Guinness World Records Official Attempt to break the record for the “Largest Gathering of People Wearing Swim Caps”.  The Guinness Attempt takes place at 11:45am and the Polar Plunge happens at noon by the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion at Tybrisa St. and Strand Ave, so be sure to get their early to register.

·         Critz Tybee Run Fest – Taking place Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th is an event that takes place far enough from the holidays to give you time prepare, while at the same time close enough for you to work off those excess holiday meals.  The Critz Tybee Run Fest is a 5 event marathon along the coast.  There is a 5K Friday night at the Lighthouse, a 10K Saturday morning, a half-marathon Saturday morning, a 2.8 mile beach run Saturday afternoon and a 1 mile run Saturday afternoon.  You can participate in one event or all 5 for a full 26.2 mile marathon.
